Barack Obama Influencing Hip Hop?

Barack Obama
Today's youth is more involved with politics then ever before in the history of the United States. And Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has become such an icon to today’s youth, that he's actually influencing hip-hop and rap music.

Stars like Young Jeezy and Nas have put aside their differences and join forces to show their support for Barack Obama in new song entitled, "My President Is Black."

A few months back Ludacris got heat for a song he wrote about the Senator in which he glorified Obama and slammed Hillary Clinton and John McCain. The story made headlines nationwide which prompted Obama's camp to release a statement about the song.

Hollyscoop.com caught up with the stars at the 2008 MTV Video music awards where we got the scoop from the artists on why politics plays a huge role in hip hop. Check out the special video coverage below...

Mr. Mike
It's all pretty incredible. Those of us who are part of the hip hop generation have never experienced the campaign of a candidate with such a rock star following...you'd probably have to go back to the Kennedy brothers to see anything like it. It's nice to actually be going to the ballot and not just having to choose the lesser of two evils. On the other hand...such celebrity status leaves an opening for a lot of disillusionment if Obama should lose or, God forbid, fail as president. My friend wrote a great feature piece on Obama's influence on hip hop. It's currently on the front page at beatspermil.com. Check it out.
