Natalie Cole Hates on Amy Winehouse

Natalie Cole, daughter of Nat King Cole, is hating on Amy Winehouse and her five Grammy wins, insisting that she shouldn't have won any awards.

She said: “I’m going on record as an artist who is able to critique her. I think she has a great talent but I don’t agree with the Grammys giving her those nods.

“I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards... It’s a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn’t have a grasp of what she has.”

I could care less what happens in Amy's personal life, the five Grammy's were for her professional work. Her album 'Back to Black' is one of the best albums I've heard in years and she deserved all five Grammy's!

I hate to admit but Amy W rocked it. Whatever she was taking last night to pull this performance last night must have been super strong. I agree with Ms. Cole to a point, but I pray that Amy W will finally start to get personal situation in check because she really is talented and could save herself if only she will allow herself too. Big up to London, overseas is always the trendsetters in music. One Luv.

What does Amy's personal life have to do with judging the music she made? And didn't Natalie do a made for TV movie about her own drug habit? Get over yourself grandma and give props where it's due. Amy's music is some of the best I've heard in years.

Natalie's wrong for saying that and it's not her place "as an artist" to "critique" anybody. And...yes back in the day she had her own drug problems, and personal problems and noone seemed to shut her out. Amy Winehouse may need this boost to her soul and spirit to realize just how good she really is and she shouldn't let nobody take that away from her. And Natalie should know better, everyone has to go through the storm at one point or another.

What a jealous washed out old has-been Cole is. Sad.

Amy really is not that good at this time and should not have won ANY awards--nothing to do with her personal life at all. Her singing is boring and monotone. She has potential, but I am not seeing it happen right now. But hey, compared to the terrible singers out there right now, sure, she is pretty good!

Natalie Cole is desparate to be in the gossip blogs! How dare she! Amy Winehouse deserved to win every single award & also deserved the Album of the Year. The awards were given to her in recognition of her WORK. Her TALENT. She also WORKED REALLY HARD to get to where she is. HER PERSONAL PROBLEMS ARE NOT FOR NATALIE "RECOVERING DRUG ADDICT" TO JUDGE.

natalie cole...when did the media care about her two cents? the only reason she's EVER gotten acclaim is for being Nat King Cole's daughter.

Natalie is 100% right. I'm sure she'll get attacked by the teeny boppers who've moved on to Winhouse after Britney, I applaud her for having the courage to speak the truth.

Obviously it's a race thing for Natalie Cole. And all of you are pretending it isn't.

I don't get it? Is Natelie Cole jealous or just stupid? No Grammy award was ever given to anyone due to their personal lifestyle good or bad! The awards are based on the music or did she forget that? What a hypocrite she is after the nonsense she's been through herself and then made a comeback on the coat tails of her great Dad with her version of "Unforgettable" which could only have happened due to technological advancements and could be argued that that was no reason to win a Grammy for that either. Nothing more low class then an artist publicly disrespecting one in their own field who obviously is going through a difficult time and does not need to be excoriated in public by a peer on top of it all. Really an unforgettable comment; kicking somebody when they're down.

Whoa! If artists had to wait until their lives were "together" before they "deserved" awards, then the vast majority of Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winners would have to hand back their awards. Ms. Cole could have phrased her comments a bit more diplomatically. Yeah, Ms. Winehouse needs help. It has nothing to do with her talent and artistry.

I cant believe she said that - just like coke help her to sell her albums and crack help to sell hers - same thing just cooked up differently. I guess she was never taught that old saying "NEVER CAST ANY STONES"

Amy Winehouse is a great talent and unlike Natalie she didn't need a famous Dad to help her along the way. :P That said, if you really want to hear WInehouse do some serious singing get her first album "Frank" and check out tunes like "Valerie" or "You Sent Me Flying"

thats funny, isnt Nat Cole the one who was in rehab for cocaine addiction? let me get this, she wants Amy W, whose album rocks btw, to get better then get awards. makes no sense, talent is talent, and it does not have a limit on where u are personally in ur life. it seems to me as though she worked her butt off, yes, she has personal issues, who doesnt. i think she deserved all of the awards. shame shame hypocrit natalie.

Mike, No, obviously it's a race thing with YOU. Natalie's remarks are strange and controversial enough...we don't need race-baiting on top of it.

I disagree with Natalie Cole. I like Amy Winehouse, purchased her album and I think she's got a soulful, melodic,voice-she deserved the Grammys. Yes, she has personal issues and I hope she is getting the help she needs and that she can be reunited with her husband. Having said that, the insults thrown at (Grammy, Award Winning, Natalie Cole), is not necessary. She's entitled to her opinion and having an addiction problem herself, I'm sure she has a valid opinion. Ms. Cole is not a racist and even if her father helped her in the industry-you can't deny her beautiful voice! So please, let's not even try to compare Natalie vs Amy. I'm afraid that's one award I can't give Amy.

NATALIE COLE? Is this the same Natalie Cole who wasted her youth on one cocaine binge after another? LOL! Natalie, once you put your finger down, perhaps you may realize you were quite similar in your youth. Didn't I read about you turning tricks for your next drug fix? I guess time makes some people wiser and some people I guess forget their dirty past.

Natalie my dear, do you remember your past? I certainly do. You must have to buy a TON of Windex to clean that glass house your living in! Tsk Tsk!

The award is given based on talent and not drug influences. Many musicians have been linked to drugs and have recovered. Not that many teeny boggers like Amy Winehouse, she have more of an young adult older teen following. Natalie Cole just sounds like she wanted to hate on someone who wasn't black and used the drugs as a scapegoat.

Just seems sad for Natalie to be playing judge and jury, especially with her history. Maybe a combination of jealousy and a need for attention (even if negative). The awards were given to an immense musical talent who has touched a lot of us, personal life has nothing to do with that.

That sounds more than a bit self-righteous coming from Natalie Cole. Thankfully, Amy Winehouse is on the road to recovery. My hope is that winning her Grammy awards helps her realize how wonderfully talented she is, and how she was throwing it all away with drugs. She certainly looked a lot better during her performance. MYOB, Miss Cole! Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!

As an artist, I don't think Natalie is fit to carry Amy's water, and hypocrites shouldn't be "critiquing" anyone.

I am psychiatrist and you are music. You should talk about music. If she is talented has to win.Psychological problems do not give grammy.Be honest with you yourself and do not mix the things. PS.It is anti ethical You could not tell that.Because you represented Grammy in that night

The American music awards are based upon musical sales/fan favorites etc. The Grammys have always been about musical and critical talent. Natalie has a point and in her actual statement alludes to her own drug use (For some reason, her comments have been edited, which doesn't help) Amy Winehouse wrote a good song, and with the back-up singers giving their 110% last night, her performance (best experienced with eyes closed) was good. Download to your Ipod, and you'll see... That said, we'll see what happens with her next album. Is she the next icon, making music into her 50's, 60's & 70's like real musicians do, or will she fall in line with the rest of the "remember her?" victims of the hitmaking corporation that is today's music industry. True talent will overcome any adversity in the coming years. Only time will tell.

I don't give a lick about mean old jealous Natalie Cole. She ought to sit down, she hasn't put out anything worthy of a Grammy in ages. I'm stunned that with all her near-death experiences, Amy's still alive. She almost starved herself to death, and then of course drugs. Winehouse is a rare talent and its my sincerest wish she lives to make many more albums. Her self-destructive behaviour is truly sad, but aren't the greatest artists troubled?
